Big Passion for Small Business

A special place in my heart belongs to small businesses owned by women, LGBTQ+, people of color, and immigrants. As an immigrant woman of color, I am invested in our hopes, dreams, and struggles as a people. My mission is to amplify our visibility as thriving members of our community.

In Midcoast Maine, I have the privilege of building and hosting the website of Roselyn Thai restaurant in Rockland. I also work on search engine optimization and copyediting for the websites of Namaste Indian Takeout and Ledges By The Bay hotel in Rockport. In Western Maine, I create media to unite the international community of Camp Tapawingo, a sleepaway camp for girls.

My approach in web services, photography, and small business consultation incorporates storytelling, practical tools, and available resources to set you up for success. Let’s work together! Email me at hazel@demesa.com and tell me about your project. I would love to hear from you.

Miscellaneous:

After graduating from college, I studied Musical Theatre at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City. I performed in shows at night and ran a children’s theatre program during the day. Noteworthy performances include concert backing vocals to Barry Manilow and Lea Salonga; a New York Times reviewed Off-Broadway play; and a Shakespeare festival with the late Dana Reeve, through whom I met her husband, my childhood superhero, Christopher Reeve.

I also worked my way through three Pleasant Care nursing facilities as a social worker, then later as assistant nursing home administrator. During the 5 years I was with the company, I created and published the company monthly print newsletter, which had a circulation that covered their 20 nursing facilities in California and Nevada. I created the company website, PleasantCare.com in 2000.

I live in a 19th century farmhouse in Camden, Maine with my husband, Jay, our daughter, cat, and dog. I am a beekeeper.
