One Last Tango

One Last Tango, original song by Hazel de Mesa

One Last Tango was inspired by that moment when I watched my grandfather near death transform himself into a young ballroom dancer gliding across the wood floor with grace. It is a memory for the ages.

The opening notes of this recording is the first time I ever picked up an electric guitar. I played the haunting melody of “Spanish Eyes,” one of Papa Gody’s favorites to sing and play on his acoustic guitar.

Jay E Moores backed me up on drums as I sang and played bass, ukulele, keyboards, and lead guitar.

One Last Tango

music & lyrics by Hazel de Mesa

I know you’re leaving before the sunrise
I know you will not say goodbye
You promised to return
I’m certain you will try
I see the truth within your Spanish eyes

I know you do not wish to see me cry
I say, “Si, si….” and “I’ll get by”
But now the time has come
And I just cannot lie
My lips have sealed all that I feel inside

Take my hand and hold me close
For one last tango
We can make it last all night
Let’s take it slow
Take my hand and hold me close
For one last tango
Make this moment last me all my life
Before you go

My love, take courage before the darkness
Put all your fears aside and rest
My kiss will warm your lips
Your body I’ll caress
I’ll stay with you until your final breath

Take my hand and hold me close
For one last tango
We can make it last all night
Let’s take it slow
Take my hand and hold me close
For one last tango
Make this moment last me all my life
Before you go
